Mold remediation
Removing visible growth is only part of the job. The moisture condition underneath has to be understood before the area is rebuilt.
Call (555) 555-5555Mold is a symptom
Mold needs moisture. If mold is growing in your home, water is getting in somewhere, or something is not drying out. Remove the growth and leave the moisture, and the condition can return.
So the first thing we do is look for the water. Sometimes it is obvious: a past leak or a flooded basement. Sometimes it is a slow supply line behind a wall, condensation on cold pipes, a crawlspace moisture issue, or a ventilation problem.
Find the moisture, contain the work, remediate the affected material, verify the area is ready, then rebuild.
How remediation works
- 01
Inspect and identify the moisture source
Moisture meters and thermal imaging help identify where the water is coming from and how far it has traveled.
- 02
Contain the work area
Physical containment and controlled air movement help keep material disturbed during removal from spreading through the rest of the house.
- 03
Filter the air
HEPA air scrubbers operate during remediation where appropriate for the scope.
- 04
Remove affected materials
Porous materials with active growth may need removal inside containment. Restorable non-porous surfaces are cleaned using methods appropriate to the material.
- 05
Treat and clean
Remaining surfaces are HEPA-vacuumed and cleaned according to the remediation scope.
- 06
Dry the area
The moisture problem is corrected or coordinated with the appropriate trade, and the area is dried to documented targets before anything is closed up.
- 07
Rebuild
Insulation, drywall, texture, paint, flooring, and other affected finishes can be reconstructed after remediation is complete.
A few things worth knowing
The goal is controlled remediation
Testing is a separate decision
Don’t disturb it before the assessment
Mold coverage is highly policy-dependent
Mold should not be advertised as automatically insurance-covered. Some policies provide limited coverage when mold results directly from a covered sudden water loss. Long-term moisture, maintenance conditions, policy exclusions, or mold sublimits can change the result.
